Ancestor Genealogy & Burial Records

The Newark Union Church & Cemetery has become a magnet for history enthusiasts, cemetery aficionados, genealogists and families, especially members of the prominent families of the Brandywine Hundred and the descendants of Valentine Hollingsworth.

The Newark Union Cemetery has over 1100 burials. It is the resting place for Quakers, as far back as the 17th century, for members of the prominent Brandywine Hundred families and for over 88 veterans of wars from the American Revolution to the Vietnam War. The Cemetery is still active with 3-4 burials each year.

The Newark Union Church & Cemetery strives to uphold and increase the manner of showing respect for those laid to rest here and to support families visiting loved ones in the cemetery.

We have 2 sources of burials records. For the older section of the Cemetery, records were compiled by the Delaware Geneological Society in 1978. For the newer section, there is an electronic database with over 600 records.
